It is "Not' Hot on Lake Atitlan
Lago Atitlan is located in the tropics, therefore one could expect hot, humid days, however that is true. Lago Atitlan weather is as close to ideal as anywhere on the planet because of the elevation of 1,562 meters or 5,125 meters above sea level. The higher the elevation, the colder it becomes, if you travel up the hill from Panajachel, to Solola, you will notice a cooler climate. Note, the higher you go in in elevation, you will eventually enter the cloud. This can result in cloud forest or rain forest conditions.

Lago Atitlan is Not a Rainforest: Rainforests are forests characterized by high rainfall, with definitions based on a minimum normal annual rainfall of 1750-2000 mm (68-78 inches).

Lago Atitlan is Not a Cloud Forest: A cloud forest, also called a fog forest, is a generally tropical or subtropical evergreen montane moist forest characterized by a persistent, frequent or seasonal low-level cloud cover, usually at the canopy level. Cloud forests often exhibit an abundance of mosses covering the ground and vegetation, in which case they are also referred to as mossy forests. Mossy forests usually develop on the saddles of mountains, where moisture introduced by settling clouds is more effectively retained.

Weather Defined:
Weather is the state of the atmosphere, to the  degree that it is hot or cold, wet or dry, calm or stormy, clear or cloudy. Most  weather phenomena occur in the troposphere, just below the stratosphere. Weather  refers, generally, to day-to-day temperature and precipitation activity, whereas  climate is the term for the average atmospheric conditions over longer periods  of time. When used without qualification, "weather" is understood to be the  weather of Earth.

Weather is driven by density (temperature and moisture)  differences between one place and another. These differences can occur due to  the sun angle at any particular spot, which varies by latitude from the tropics.  The strong temperature contrast between polar and tropical air gives rise to the  jet stream. Weather systems in the mid-latitudes, such as extratropical  cyclones, are caused by instabilities of the jet stream flow. Because the  Earth's axis is tilted relative to its orbital plane, sunlight is incident at  different angles at different times of the year. On Earth's surface,  temperatures usually range ±40 °C (100 °F to ?40 °F) annually. Over thousands of  years, changes in Earth's orbit affect the amount and distribution of solar  energy received by the Earth and influence long term climate and global climate  change.

Surface temperature differences in turn cause pressure  differences. Higher altitudes are cooler than lower altitudes due to differences  in compressional heating. Weather forecasting is the application of science and  technology to predict the state of the atmosphere for a future time and a given  location. The atmosphere is a chaotic system, so small changes to one part of  the system can grow to have large effects on the system as a whole. Human  attempts to control the weather have occurred throughout human history, and  there is evidence that human activity such as agriculture and industry has  inadvertently modified weather patterns.

Questions needed answered in comments:

1. Which month is best to see the volcanoes?

2. We need a map of the sun going across the sky, so we know how to rent a room so we know how to rent an apartment so we either have sun come in, or stays out.

NOTE: Beware of steel roofs when renting on Lake Atitlan, these rooms can be two times hotter than a concrete roof.

I have had ENOUGH!!! I live in Madison WI. I was born here but at 8 I started moving around the world with my family (military) and then after I graduated HS in Bermuda I stated my own trek (USAF) and kept going till I was $^ and then came back here. Before the winters were bearable and the summers, last year we hit 90 twice, but now I am having a BBQ inside! I run out to cook but everyone else stays in the AC. The heat index is 105 right now and tomorrow it is supposed to hit 110 or more. I bet we have sub-zero temps this winter for a few months too. So I cant wait to soak my dogs in the lake as I sip on a cool cervesa and munch on a empanada... :) and I wont have to fight the weather to be comfortable. Like Andy said in all the 80-90 countries hes been in that Pana has the most perfect weather he has experienced. Next to possibly Banos, Ecuador...

I will have to add Banos, Ecuador to my bucket list. Just curious, why is it called Banos, lots of toilets?

I think because of Hot Water Springs.
